flickrvision
flickrvision is a cool mashup site that shows you live uploads of photos on flickr as they are happening. From all around the world. It’s petty cool to see what other nations are uploading compared to the US in real time.
I wonder how they know exactly where the photos are coming from. Do you put your location information on your flickr profile when you sign up? Does that mean that they don’t feature people’s photos who don’t have a location selected?
So, this website is cool because it shows us random photos that are usually very interesting and diverse in subject. But it is kind of hard to use at first. There were many pictures I wanted to save or look at longer, but I could not figure out how to open them, so they are lost and gone forever in the flickr forest because there doesn’t seem to be a way to view previous uploads. Apparently though, you have to click on the title underneath the photo, which could be kind of diffucult to do since the page keeps moving and the images are different sizes. If they kept a link to each picture in the same place it would be much easier for me to favourite them and view them. That’s why I like the slideshow feature in flickr because it lets me pause and favourite a photo right there in the slideshow without having to screw around with other windows and wait for more loading.
I think flickr is a really cool site, except that running it on Miami’s wireless network works so very not well. Usually when I click on a photo in flickr it either doesn’t load at all or take a century. This sucks in particular because I like using the slideshow feature on flickr, which runs for crap on our wireless. Smoothness is a big factor in my enjoyment of flickr, so I often don’t get to enjoy it at home!
